Hausdorff School: “Recent Advances in Quantum and Statistical Mechanics”

Dates:  June 26 - 30, 2023

Venue: Lipschitz-Saal (Endenicher Allee 60, Bonn)

Organizers:  Christian Brennecke (Bonn University), Serena Cenatiempo (Gran Sasso Science Institute), Marco Falconi (Politecnico di Milano)

The school aims at introducing PhD students and young researchers to some among the recent developments in mathematical physics, with an emphasis on many-body problems, quantum mechanics and quantum field theory. In recent years new analytical and probabilistic methods have been developed within these fields, allowing the mathematical physics community to advance in the understanding of the statistical mechanics properties of many-body and field-particle systems. The goal of the school is on the one hand to present such methods and on the other hand to provide an environment for the exchange of ideas among researchers with different mathematical background and research focus.

Lecture series by:

  • Fumio Hiroshima (Kyushu University)
  • Antti Knowles (University of Geneva)
  • Sylvia Serfaty (Courant Insititute, NYU)

Additional talks by:

  • Margherita Disertori (University of Bonn)
  • Alessandro Giuliani (Roma Tre University)
  • Chiara Saffirio (University of Basel)
  • Jacob Schach Møller (Aarhus University)
  • Benjamin Schlein (University of Zurich)
  • Amanda Young (Technical University of Munich)

The University of Bonn and HSM are committed to diversity and equal opportunity. We aim to increase the proportion of women in areas where women are underrepresented and to facilitate their careers. We therefore strongly encourage women with relevant qualifications to apply.

To support the participation of researchers travelling with young children, additional financial support and childcare during lectures can be provided. To encourage the participation of researchers facing increased financial burden, such as researchers from developing countries, a small number of fully funded places are available (including support for travel, visa fees etc). Please indicate in your application (under "Comments") for which type of financial support you would like to be considered.

Participation via Zoom will be possible. If you are interested in this, please contact us at recentadvances@hcm.uni-bonn.de.

In case of scientific questions, please contact the organizers at recentadvances(at)hcm.uni-bonn.de, in case of questions concerning services and administration, please contact hsm(at)hcm.uni-bonn.de.

The due date for registration has expired.

Dear guests,

some of our guests are currently receiving phishing messages from scam travel companies such as travellerpoint(dot)org asking about travel details. Unfortunately, there is very little we can do to prevent this. Please, do not share any personal, or payment data with persons contacting you from emails that you cannot identify as belonging to the organizers at the University of Bonn or the Hausdorff Center for Mathematics. And feel free to reach out, if you are unsure!
